Fantasy Hockey Transaction Trends – November 24

Tough break, literally, for Montreal Canadiens winger Brendan Gallagher. Gallagher was well on his way to setting new career highs in virtually every category until he suffered two broken fingers while blocking a shot against the Islanders. What do you do with the winger? Drop him? No. Pick him up? Yes. Stash him on the IR? Yes. Read on for that and more fantasy hockey transaction trends.

Pick Ups

Brendan Gallagher – RW – Montreal Canadiens
77% Owned*

This is more of a “if anyone dropped Gallagher, immediately go and pick him up” kind of circumstance. Anyways, Gallagher has been the grittiest player for the Canadiens this season. Second on the team among forwards for blocked shots and that’s exactly the reason why he’s sidelined for at least the next six weeks (Gallagher Out). Up until his injury, Gallagher had 9 goals and 10 assists for a total of 19 points – good for second on the team. Gallagher is an important cog in the Canadiens offence and shouldn’t be dropped. If you have an IR roster spot in your league and number 11 is out there, go ahead and pick him up.

Boone Jenner – C/RW – Columbus Blue Jackets
49% Owned*

In his third season in the NHL, Jenner seems to have found his stride. He’s found a home on the top line with Ryan Johansen and Brandon Saad as well as spending some time on the first power play unit. Jenner is tied for fifth in the NHL in goals (11) and is on track to surpass his career high (16g in 72 games – 2013/14). Jenner has made a lasting impression on John Tortorella and everyone knows it’s important to stay on his good side. (Skip to 14 seconds and enjoy. NSFW (Language): Classic Torts)

Karri Ramo – G – Calgary Flames
23% Owned*

Ramo is clear number one goaltender out in Calgary. He’s won three of his last four outings while sporting a 2.00 GAA. Those matches have been against tough company for the most part (two games against Chicago, one against Washington). Ramo opened the season as the number one option, got sent to the minors, then had a “heart-to-heart” with head coach Bob Hartley. Whatever was said during that heart to heart has been working wonders for the 29 year old Fin. Jump on Ramo while he’s hot.

Drop Offs

Nikolaj Ehlers – LW/RW – Winnipeg Jets
26% Owned*

After picking up 7 points in his first 10 games, Ehlers has been extremely ineffective since. He has no goals since October 27th and has only notched two assists in his last nine matches. He was previously playing on the second line while getting steady powerplay time. He’s been dropped to the third line and has only been on the ice for an average of 12:35. While it may be tempting to hold onto a rookie with so much promise – it’s time to cut ties with Ehlers.

Nail Yakupov – LW/RW – Edmonton Oilers
49% Owned*

Things looked so good for Yakupov earlier this season. So. Good. He was finally looking like he was worthy of the Oilers first overall pick in 2012. When Connor McDavid went down, so did Nail Yakupov (metaphorically speaking). Yakupov has only recorded a single assist in the 8 games since McDavid was injured. His ice time has gone down significantly while also being bumped all the way down to the third line. Yakupov can easily be your next dropped player for someone off the wire.

Keep An Eye Open For…

Nazem Kadri – C – Toronto Maple Leafs
24% Owned*

Nazem Kadri has the worst puck luck in the NHL. He’s fifth in shots (87) but he’s just not finding the back of the net. With only two goals and six assists on the year, he doesn’t really warrant an add… yet. The opportunity is there for Kadri. Steady ice time on the first line while playing valuable powerplay minutes usually adds up to a valuable fantasy asset. Kadri has seen his face-off percentage go up as well (2015/16 – 50.7% | 2014/15 – 46.2%). If he can start lighting the lamp, he’ll be well worth the add.

Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire – Thursday November 19th

About a quarter way into the NHL season, injuries are ravaging rosters, players are starting to settle into their roles and chemistry is building among line mates. Now’s the time to jump on the waiver wire and grab these players.

Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire – Thursday November 19th

Artem Anisimov – C/LW – Chicago Blackhawks
30% Owned*

Did you have cold feet at your draft and didn’t want to take Patrick Kane? Did you miss out on rookie phenom Artemi Panarin? Well, remove the “i” in Artemi and you can have Artem Anisimov. Anisimov is in a comfortable situation in Chicago. He’s slotted on the second line between Kane and Panarin while anchoring the top power play unit. Anisimov has picked up six points in his last five games while winning 127 draws. If he’s out there, go pick him up.

Leon Draisaitl – C/RW – Edmonton Oilers
42% Owned*

There’s probably one person who deep down didn’t mind Connor McDavid going down with an injury. Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers top pick in the 2014 draft has been on fire since McDavid went down. The 20 year old German has been one of the few bright spots for the 6-12-1 Oilers. Draisaitl is only one of six plus players on Edmonton’s roster (7). He’s third in team scoring with 14 points in nine games, tied with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (who has played 9 more games) and seven points back of Taylor Hall who leads the team. Draisaitl is making the most of his shots (31.60 shooting %) and making the most of his opportunity.

Shayne Gostisbehere – D – Philadelphia Flyers
4% Owned*

After you go through the trouble of phonetically saying his name out loud, you can go ahead and snag Gostisbehere off the waiver wire. Nicknamed “Ghost”, he’s been exactly what the Flyers were hoping he would be after being called up from Leigh Valley. Ghost has picked up points in each of his last two games (1G, 1A) while seeing his ice time climb as high as 19:40. Gostisbehere isn’t afraid to put the puck on net, averaging 3 SOG/g. He’s found a home on the top powerplay unit and should find a home on your team.

Melker Karlsson – C/RW – San Jose Sharks
2% Owned*

Karlsson has been loving life with Joe squared on the top line (Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton). The 25 year old Swede has tickled the twine twice in his four games played this season while adding an assist. Karlsson is getting his shots (9) and hits (9) making him a valuable asset on your fantasy team.

James Reimer – G – Toronto Maple Leafs
42% Owned*

Don’t look now. The Leafs are winning. Leaf fans can go ahead and thank James Reimer now. The 27 year old has established him self as head coach Mike Babcock’s go-to option between the pipes. Can you blame him? Reimer has been unbelievable. Since November 2nd (a span of seven games started), Reimer has only had one game with a GAA above 2.00. He’s faced an average of 39 shots per game (10 above the league average of 29 shots per game). The saves are great for you fantasy-wise & the added bonus of wins on a losing team (4 wins in his last 4 games started) is just the cherry on top.

Week 11 Fantasy Football Rankings

Week 11 Fantasy Football Rankings

This week the Fantasy Gods decided to take away all of our whipping boys at once. The Saints, Giants, Browns and Steelers all are on bye. Not only do these teams possess defenses (Besides Steelers Run D) we fantasy footballers like to target they also have some of the best quarter back and receiving options available in the NFL.  With Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning and Drew Brees on a bye you may have to dig deep and trust the rankings of an analyst, like myself, to grab the right QB streaming option.  No streaming option had his estimated points drop more than Kirk Cousins this week as he goes from facing the Saints to facing the Carolina Panthers.  I would suggest looking at other options such as Matthew Stafford, Ryan Fitzpatrick or Alex Smith.  For all of your other ranking needs look below and also check out the Start/Sit Tool located to the right of this post.  Remember to check back as the week goes on as players get ruled out and outlooks change.

FanDuel Quick Picks for Week 11 NFL DFS

PLAYER PICKS FOR WEEK 11 Tournament Style

I fear the end is near. Today, I could not access FanDuel from my Verizon 4G network. I can only use FanDuel using WiFi so that they can verify that I’m not in a restricted state. Let’s just enjoy what little time left we have together.

Quick Tip #1 -Derek Carr – QB – Raiders – ($7700) – He’s consistently put up points over the last four weeks including three straight 300 yard performances. Last week vs. a tough Vikings D he hung in there and still posted solid stats to the tune of 29-43-302 with two TDs. The Lions used up all of their magic last week vs. Aaron Rogers. They come back to reality and Carr is a good bet in fantasy.

Quick Tip #2 – Charcandrick West – RB – Chiefs ($7100) – He is red hot, the chiefs are red hot, and the Chargers are terrible against the run. West is a must own for your lineups this week at a very affordable $7100. Last week he did it all vs. a solid Broncos Defense as he rushed for 69 yards and a TD while catching three passes for 92 yards and a TD. The Chiefs gave him the ball early and often and will do the same this week.

Quick Tip #3 Danny Amendola – WR – Patriots ($6100)
You won’t be the only one thinking that he steps in and does what Edelman does. The price is just too good for someone who instantly became Brady’s go to guy last week vs. the Giants. His 10 receptions for 79 yards was just a TD away from a very good week. I think he gets that TD this week for a solid 20 FanDuel points or so. All for $6100.

Quick Tip #4 – Chris Ivory – RB – Jets ($7200)
With Ryan Fitzpatrick returning after surgery to his non-throwing hand expect the Jets to rely even more heavily on Ivory this week. While the Texans D looked improved on Monday night I don’t expect them to put up back to back good weeks especially on a short week. Ivory racked up 99 yards on 18 carries last Thursday night and the extra rest will serve him well this Sunday.

Quick Tip #5 – Julio Jones – WR – Falcons ($9100)
The Falcons offense has been off for awhile now but the targets and reception numbers for Julio have been great the last two weeks. 10-137 last week and 12-162 the week before that. The Falcons offense will look to get back on track this week vs. a vulnerable Colts defense. With many top WRs on a bye this week it’s a good time to take the best WR option. I think his price will scare away a lot of people this week and that only adds to his value for your lineups.

THE LONGSHOTS

Below are 5 long shots that have a chance to hit this week along with a small blurb about each one and their Fanduel price. Adding any one of these guys is like adding a long shot into horse racing exacta or trifecta.

Bears D – $4200 – They have hung in there recently and the Bears actually have a meaningful game this week at home vs. the Broncos. I’m betting on a Broncos team minus Peyton to be out of sync and sloppy. Although they were out of sync and sloppy with Peyton. Either way, this long shot could pay you dividends this week.

Nelson Agholor – WR – $5100 – This guy again. Look, he’s a rookie and it’s been a rocky road. Remember, he did have a great preseason with Mark Sanchez throwing to him. Sanchez could start this week and if he does I’m going to use Nelson in one lineup.

Charles Johnson- WR – Vikings $4900- There is no statistical data to back any suggestion to play this guy this week other than the fact that he got hot at the end of last year. Just a hunch this week if Aaron Rogers finds it and gets hot the Viking will be forced to throw.

Jimmy Graham – TE -$5800 – Oh, how the mighty have fallen. This price is dirt cheap and the Seahawks coordinator will probably make sure he catches a TD this week so he doesn’t go insane.

Case Keenum – QB – $4800 – A $4800 starting QB is unheard of in FanDuel. The Ravens pass defense isn’t great, maybe he throws a screen to Gurley that he breaks for a long TD, and wouldn’t you know it he beat the Ravens as a starter last year for Houston. I’m going to put him in one lineup just so I can say I started a $4800 QB.

DraftKings NBA DFS Must Plays, Stay Aways & The Bargain Bin, November 18

10 games on the schedule for DraftKings NBA DFS so there’s plenty of selection tonight. The trick is finding out who you can blow the bank on, who you need to avoid like the plague & who you can pull out of the bargain bin.

Must Plays:

Damien Lillard ($8,800) @ Houston Rockets

With the Trailblazers and Rockets projected point total at 211.5, it makes it the second highest projection next to the Pelicans and Thunder game. All signs are pointing to a big night from Lillard. Houston ranks 28th in the NBA giving up a whopping 108.5 points per game. They constantly let opposing point guards put up monster DraftKings points against (52.7). Not to mention that tonight will be the Rockets first game without former head coach Kevin McHale. If you can afford Lillard, slot him into your lineups.

Paul George ($9,500) @ Philadelphia 76ers

Projected to be the second lowest scoring game of the night, you typically would want to stay away from this matchup entirely. However; you just can’t do that with the way Paul George is playing. George has gone seven straight games with at least 26 points and hasn’t had less than 40 DK points since November 3rd. He’s been heating up from beyond the arc over his last two games (8/11) and that shouldn’t slow down against a very shorthanded 76ers squad. With George Hill, Rodney Stuckey and Myles Turner out – look for PG to get a lions share of the minutes.

Stay Aways

Rajon Rondo ($8,700) @ Atlanta Hawks

Remember the good ol’ days when Rondo was $5,800? With a price tag up to $8,700, it just doesn’t make sense to blow your budget on a streaky player like Rondo. His last game out against Toronto (with a $8,500 price tag), he struggled to put the ball in the net (TO allows opponent PG’s to only shoot 37.5% from the field). Look for the same production against the Hawks who are right behind the Raptors in that category as well (Opponent PG’s shoot just 39.1% from the field). There are much better options out there.

James Harden ($10,000) vs Portland Trail Blazers

No. Just don’t do it. Stay far away. Far, far away. Harden is averaging 27 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds a game but his shooting percentage is atrocious. 37% while turning the ball over nearly five times a game. With a new coach and the Rockets already in desperation mode – expect Harden to throw up way too many shots. Tonight’s not the night for the beard.

Bargain Bin

Ben McLemore ($3,100) @ Atlanta Hawks

McLemore has seemed to have found his shot over the last two games. What a coincidence, as he’s started the previous two matches as well. He’s up against Kyle Korver who may be rested because of Atlanta’s back to back situation. Over the last five games, the Hawks have given up the 11th most DK points to shooting guards (45.3). Want some salary relief? Get some McLemore in your lineup

DraftKings NBA DFS Studs and Values, November 17th

Tuesday’s slate includes a ton of high-tier talent. Three players are priced above $10,000 while five are $9,000 and higher. Which do you build your lineup around? Do you build around any? Let’s take a peek at some studs & values at each position for tonight’s games.

DraftKings NBA DFS Studs and Values, November 17th

By: Matt Best

PG

Stud: Kyle Lowry ($8,200) @ Golden State Warriors

Hear me out. Yes, the Raptors are facing the Warriors. Yes, those Warriors are undefeated. Yes, odds of the Raptors winning are 5:1. That doesn’t mean Kyle Lowry’s hot streak will stop. This game has the highest total point projection (207). Someone’s going to have to shoot the ball for the Raptors. Lowry is averaging 46.31 DK points per game. His counterpart (and the most expensive point guard at $10,700) Stephen Curry is averaging 52 DK points per game. Those 6 DK points aren’t worth the extra $2,500.

Value: Emmanuel Mudiay ($6,100) @ New Orleans Pelicans

Mudiay has been hit or miss this season (39.75 FP vs Milwaukee, 18.5 FP vs Oklahoma City). The good news is, he’s facing a horrific New Orleans defence (30th in total points against | 109.4 per game). The even better news? The Pelicans are pathetic at guarding the 1 (53.5 Average DraftKings points against per game). Opponents point guards shoot 46.1% from the field. This is perfect for Mudiay who’s had 44 shot attempts in his last three games.

SG

Stud: DeMar DeRozan ($7,300) @ Golden State Warriors

At $7,300, DeRozan is at the top for SG pricing. If Klay Thompson enters the lineup and has to guard DeRozan, DeMar might have a field day. Thompson has been dealing with a stiff back throughout the year and DeRozan has been explosive throughout the year. The Warriors give up an average of 41.6 DraftKings points to opposing shooting guards. Look for DeMar to join the party.

Value: Khris Middleton ($5,800) @ Washington Wizards

Minutes, minutes, minutes. He really should be called Khris Minuteston. Alright, I’ll stop. Middleton has played 40+ minutes in his last two games and he’s been heating up beyond the arc (4/7 over his last two games). Even with O.J. Mayo probable to make his season debut, expect his minutes to be limited.  The Wizards are most likely to be without Bradley Beal as he’s suffering from a bruised shoulder. In that case, Garrett Temple gets the start which means Middleton needs to be in your lineup.

SF

Stud: Carmelo Anthony ($8,500) vs Charlotte Hornets

Charlotte is inside the top ten for most DraftKings points given up to opposing small forwards (40.9). This bodes well for Anthony owners tonight as Melo has been on a scoring tear as of late. His last game out – 29 points, 13 rebounds while shooting 11-21 from the field. His attempts are there and so is the history against Charlotte. The last time Anthony faced the hornets, he had 29 points to go along with 6 rebounds to muster up 42.5 DraftKings Points. His counterpart, Marvin Williams, is dealing with a right pectoral strain. That won’t bode well against the already hard to guard Melo.

Value: Otto Porter ($5,400) vs Milwaukee Bucks

Porter is well on his way to a break out campaign. Porter hit the glass hard his last game out, picking up 10 rebounds against the Magic. Look for around the same production against a Bucks squad who gives up 8.3 RPG against opposing small forwards. Porter is getting a lions share of the minutes with Beal out of the lineup and the Bucks give up 20+ points to opposing SF’s. More minutes = more points. More points = more money for you.

PF

Stud: Greg Monroe ($8,100) @ Washington Wizards

Three. Straight. Double. Doubles. That’s all you should really need to know at this point. What you see is what you get with Monroe, and what you should see is a must play. The Wizards will have Marcin Gortat and his 14.51 Player Efficiency Rating go up against Monroe and his 24.93 PER. Bad news for Washington. Over the last five games, the Wiz have given up 53.2 DraftKings points per game on average against opposing power forwards. Get Monroe in your lineup.

Value: Thaddeus Young ($5,900) vs Atlanta Hawks

Thaddeus had his best game of the season against the best team in the league on Saturday, posting 26 points and 10 rebounds en-route to 50 DK points. Expect the mobile PF to take Paul Millsap on a shooting adventure. Opposing PF’s shoot 52.3% from the field and Young is certainly starting to shoot the ball more (22 FGA vs GS).

C

Stud: Andre Drummond ($9,900) vs Cleveland Cavaliers

When was the last time Andre Drummond failed to register a double double? April 13th. He was only one rebound away. The Drummond train has been rolling all season long and it’ll just continue to push through opponents. It’s next stop – Cleveland. Timofey Mozgof will get the first crack at slowing him down, but when that fails – Tristan Thompson will attempt to slow him down. Thompson had a season low 4 rebounds his last game out. Play Drummond.

Value: Andrew Bogut ($4,800) vs Toronto Raptors

Bogut has seen his minutes go higher and higher since coming back from a concussion. He saw a season high 32 minutes off the bench against Brooklyn while registering a double double and stuffing the stat sheet (10 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, 2 steals). Against a Toronto D who’s given up 61.0 DraftKings points against opposing centres, there’s no better opportunity for the old Bogut to continue to come back into form.

Bargain Bin:

PF – J.J. Hickson ($4,300)

SG – Rondae Hollis-Jefferson ($3,300)

PG – Dennis Schroder ($4,600)

Thank you for reading and don’t hesitate to reach out on Twitter (@BESTofMATT) with any last minute DraftKings line up questions.

Week 10 Fantasy Football Rankings

With the Colts, Falcons, Chargers and 49ers on a bye many of you may be looking for who to start this week. (Okay, maybe not the 49ers or the Colts at this point.)  Hopefully the week 10 fantasy football rankings below will help you with your choices.  The injury to Allen Hurns at the end of the Jaguars Vs. Jets game really makes me mad as he has a golden match up against a still struggling Baltimore Ravens secondary.  With that in mind you may have to move Allen Robinson up a few pegs this week.  The injury to Prince Amukamara has made the Giants pass D especially week against teams secondary wide receivers and this week the Giants face Brandon Lafell coming off of his best game since he returned from a foot injury.

James Starks has taken over the lead RB role in Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers could take out some frustration on the Detroit Lions in week 10.  I like bumping up teams running games coming off of a bye, but the Cardinals and Seahawks get to face each other in a match up that doesn’t invite top notch out put.

FanDuel Quick Picks for Week 10

FANDUEL QUICK PICKS FOR WEEK 10 NFL DFS

By Brian Quick

Hey Fanduelers, all eight of you in South Dakota that are still allowed to play by law. We are coming to the legal crossroads of DFS and history is not on our side. Unless of course that history is the American revolution but that took a lot of work. We play fantasy football for a reason. We are all too busy, lazy, and tired to play real sports. Will we organize and revolt if they take it all away from us? Thanks to the internet we can! Let us revolt from the comfort of our own reclining chairs when the time comes in the near future. I encourage all of you to reach out to your politicians and let them know that DFS may not be perfect but it’s our way of life. Would our founding fathers have shown off their skill by selecting D’Angelo Williams and Antonio Brown last week? Your damn right they would and they wouldn’t let the British stop them from playing DFS. Why should we?

PLAYER PICKS FOR WEEK 10 Tournament Style

Quick Tip #1 – Aaron Rodgers – QB – Packers – ($9200)
I don’t love spending big on a QB because it’s the easiest position to find value at. However, I don’t love the matchups that the mid-tier QBs have and I’m tentative to take either of the two long shots that I will mention below. I was deciding between Tom Brady vs. the Giants porous secondary or a mad Aaron Rodgers vs. a god-awful Lions team at home. I’m going with Rodgers because I expect him to put up huge numbers with ease. The Packers can’t fool around as they’ve lost two games in a row. They will come out and blow away the Lions and they won’t take their foot off of the gas. Rogers will complete less passes than last week but his yardage numbers should go up and his TDS should range between 3-5. I expect a 400+ yard game with 4 TDs. You have to pay the price but that’s OK as I see value at other positions.

Quick Tip #2 – Todd Gurley – RB – Rams ($9200) –
Taking the top two most expensive players seems crazy but trust me, the value picks are there are great value picks in the WR category and for your second RB. Gurley faced a tough Vikes D last week and still post respectable numbers of 89 rushing yards and TD to go with 3 catches for 20 yards. The Bears have actually been better than I thought they’d be but this will be a back to back road game for them in a short week. This is where we see the bad bears. They just won’t be able to contain Gurley and I can see him breaking big run after big run.

Quick Tip #3 James Starks – RB – Packers ($6000)
Value. Eddie Lacy stinks. James Starks is the man. If you wasted a pick on Lacy or spent a lot of money on him in an auction draft it is just another reminder why FanDuel is so popular. Starks is going to put up all sorts of numbers this week as the Packers have their way with the Lions. Last week Starks caught 6 passes for 83 yards and a TD, while rushing for 39 yards on 10 carries. The carries are going to go up, the TDs are going to go up, and the passing yards should be the same. ALL FOR $6000! This offsets some of the Rogers (or Brady) and Gurley investment.

Quick Tip #4 – Martavis Bryant – WR – ($6500)
Landry Jones likes to throw to Bryant more than Antonio Brown. Take a look back to weeks 6 and 7 where Jones threw to Bryant for 3 TDs and especially week 6 where they torched the Cardinals D for 137 yards. All the while Antonio Brown wasn’t doing much. To me, this is like getting Antonio Brown for $6500 assuming Landry Jones doesn’t fall apart. It’s a home game vs. the Browns so he should be ok. Great Value.

Quick Tip #5 – Davante Adams – WR – Packers ($5800)
Adams is the guy that needed to step up and be Jordy Nelson. Last week he caught 7 of his 11 targets for 93 yards. He is finally healthy and his value was so bad that he is only back up to $5800. This is his breakout week. He fits so nicely in lineups and his upside this week makes it hard to contain my excitement.

THE LONGSHOTS

Below are 5 long shots that have a chance to hit this week along with a small blurb about each one and their Fanduel price. Adding any one of these guys is like adding a long shot into horse racing exacta or trifecta.

Landry Jones – QB – $6200 – I’m going to play him in one lineup because I think at that price it’s worth it for the few bombs to Bryant.

Kirk Cousins – QB – $6500 – The Saints give up ridiculous amounts of passing yards and TDs. They’ve done that at home the past two weeks. What are they going to be like on the road? Tempting to take Cousins.

Rueben Randle – WR – $5700- I assume that Belichick will take Odell Beckham Jr. out of this game. I believe the Giants will be trailing and playing catchup all day. This could be one of those once every year huge games for Randle.

Jordan Reed – TE -$5800 – In my mind he is going to do what Delane Walker did to the Saints last week. In reality, he will get hurt in the first quarter and disappoint me yet again.

Pierre Garcon – WR – $6400 – If my plan to use players playing the Saints awful defense fails I can live with that. Last week he caught four passes on eight targets for 70 yards. I want to use Desean Jackson but feel he’s one hamstring tweak from doing nothing. Garcon is the safer bet here.
